Dr. David Armstrong is Professor of Medicine at McMaster University and a consultant gastroenterologist at Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS). After graduating from Cambridge University and King’s College Hospital, he spent over 2 years in Labrador as a family practitioner before completing his clinical and research training in the UK, Switzerland and Canada. His clinical and research interests include gastroesophageal reflux disease, dyspepsia, gastrointestinal motility, inflammatory bowel disease, nutrition, short bowel syndrome, colon cancer screening and quality in endoscopy with 200 peer-reviewed publications, 100 invited reviews and letters and 300 peer-reviewed abstracts. He has been a principal investigator for numerous clinical trials and taken part in many guideline consensus processes related to GERD, Helicobacter pylori, dysphagia, upper GI bleeding, gastroparesis, wireless capsule endoscopy and endoscopy quality. He has been the HPN Team Medical Director since its inception in 1996. He was President of the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology (CAG) from 2016-2018 and is, currently, Chair of the Canadian National Colon Cancer Screening Network (NCCSN), Treasurer of the International Working Group for the Classification of Oesophagitis (IWGCO), Chair of the Global Guidelines Committee for the World Gastroenterology Organization (WGO) and a Board Member of the Canadian Digestive Health Foundation (CDHF).

The clinical and nutritional management of patients with intestinal failure
